SDG 3 - GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Apayao State College (ASC), as a Higher Education Institution in the country, is committed to contributing to the attainment of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. The P/A/Ps under this SDG include the following:

  • Mandatory annual physical examination for all JO and Casual employees;
  • Annual Executive Check- up for Executives; and
  • Physical Fitness Activities (e.g., Zumba)
  • Group Health Counseling
  • IEC on the following (Cervical cancer awareness, STI/HIV-AIDS awareness, Non-communicable Diseases & Healthy Lifestyle, Smoking Cessation, Stress Management, Mental Awareness, and Reproductive Health (Teenage Pregnancy))

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to assess the extent of food handling and sanitation practices of the different foodservice establishment in Conner, Apayao. The descriptive survey method of research was used. It described the actual practices, situations and phenomena in preparing and serving food of the different food establishments, the different problems encountered with customers, and their coping practices. Observation was used to verify or support data gathered from food handlers and employees of the identified food establishments who served as respondents of the study. The result showed that the food establishments encountered several problems in the implementation of sanitation and food handling policies and problems with customers and they do not have enough time and resources attending seminars and trainings to further enhance their capabilities. It is recommended that the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Conner, Apayao through the Municipal Health Office (MHO) should be very strict in issuing sanitary permits, should regularly inspect food establishments on compliance with the requirements regardless of the type and size of the business before operating a business, and food handlers should observe food safety culture wherein proper food handling and sanitary practice as part of their daily routine.
