Carrying the theme, “Illuminating Pathways to the Future: Empowering Global Educators for a Competent Tomorrow,” the Teacher Education Program conducted a 2nd Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony cum Teacher’s Day Celebration at EKB San Isidro Gym Gymnasium, San Isidro Sur, Luna, Apayao on October 18.
Introduced by Ms. Pearl Jane P. Quinto, Program Chair of BTVTED, Ms. Ruby Acio-Palacay, Teacher III from Luna National High School, served as the resource speaker.
In her speech, Ms. Acio-Palacay underscored educators’ significant impact on shaping their students’ lives. She also highlighted the roles that teachers play—not only as knowledgeable mentors but also as a supporting system for the students to realize their potential and navigate toward a brighter future.
“Hindi ka lang nagtuturo ng mga aralin ngunit hinihikayat mo rin ang panghabambuhay na pagmamahal sa pag-aaral na tutulong sa kanila na harapin ang hinaharap nang may kumpiyansa at pagkamalikhain,” she said.
She concluded her speech with, “Hand in hand, may we all keep the fire burning for the love of learning and teaching.”
Composed of pre-service teachers from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), and Bachelor of Technical Vocational and Teacher Education (BTVTEd) programs, Mr. Raymond D. Garcia, Program Chair of BSEd, reminded the pre-service teachers the field they are undertaking is rewarding and demanding. He highlighted the transformative experience through their students’ growth while acknowledging the obstacles they may face in their endeavors.
Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo, Campus Academic Dean, emphasized the responsibilities inherent in educators’ roles. She mentioned the symbolism of the pinning and candle-lighting ceremonies, stating, “You are now the guiding lights for future generations, tasked with shaping not only their minds but also their values and character.”
Emerson Q. Peralta, a BSED 4 English student, led the vow of commitment. In the morning, the Pinning and Candle-Lighting Ceremony took place.
In closing the ceremonies, Dr. Gem Micah Morales-Balanay, the Program Chair of BEEd, emphasized the importance of striving for excellence and demonstrating compassion in education.
In the afternoon, during the BSED program’s celebration of Teachers’ Day, Lindsey P. Pasion, GURO President, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the educators. She stressed their contributions both within and beyond the classroom. “From the classroom discussions to the life lessons that extend beyond the walls of academia, teachers give us the tools not only to succeed but also to lead lives of purpose.”
Likewise, Cassie Jane Q. Garcia, Vice President of GURO, sealed the event by stating, “Let us not forget the great impact teachers have on our lives, much of which goes unnoticed, and give thanks not today but every day.”
The event also showcased student performances from the first to the fourth year of the BSED program and engaging games and activities participated by teachers and students.
