In pursuit of academic excellence and the continuous enhancement of educational quality, the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) underwent inspection and monitoring by the Professional Regulatory Board of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (PRB-ABE) and Professional Regulation Commission- Cordillera Administrative Region (PRC-CAR) at EKB Auditorium, ASC-Luna Campus on February 24.

The monitoring and inspection team were Hon. Ariodear C. Rico, Chairman; Hon. Sherwin O. Valdez, Member of PRB-ABE and Ms. Zara Mae Comom, representative of PRC-CAR. The event was attended by academic and administrative personnel, including Dr. John N. Cabansag, College President; Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice President for Academics, Research Development, and Extension Services; Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo, Luna Campus Academic Dean; and Engr. Claire Aquino, Chairperson of BSABE and faculty members of BSABE. Dr. Maria Christina Z. Manicad, Director for Research and Development and Special Projects; Dr. Mirasol Agpuldo, Director for Extension and KTM; program chairpersons from Luna Campus, BSABE students, and non-teaching personnel.

President Cabansag underscored the significance of continual program enhancement to establish a framework of academic quality that benefits students, faculty, industry stakeholders, and the broader community.

The findings from the evaluation highlighted areas necessitating development, including the recruitment of additional faculty members with expertise in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, the refinement of the program’s strategic roadmap, the expansion of extension services, and the advancement of career specialization tracks such as agricultural and biosystems power and machinery engineering, AB process engineering, and forest engineering.

Additionally, capacity-building initiatives for faculty members were identified as an essential component of academic improvement.

Meanwhile, the BSABE department demonstrated compliance with facility requirements as per by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Orders (CMO) and submission of Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) to CHED. Nonetheless, ongoing efforts are being made to address certain compliance aspects, as indicated in the evaluators’ report.

Prior to the presentation of recommendations, Engr. Aquino delivered an overview of the institution’s profile, the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Education Competitiveness Road Map, the COPC status, and the BSABE research, development, and extension initiatives.

VPARDES Ocampo expressed his appreciation to PRB-ABE and PRC-CAR for their expertise and guidance. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to implementing the recommended improvements to ensure that the BSABE program remains a benchmark of academic excellence. “The insights provided by PRB-ABE and PRC will be instrumental in shaping the future of our program,” he said.
