Officials from the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) and the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Apayao conducted a monitoring visit of the project “Exploring Anabo: The Underutilized Non-Timber Forest Product in Apayao,” held at Conference Hall, ASC-Luna Campus on April 14.

The monitoring team included Dr. Nancy Bantog, DOST-CAR Regional Director; Dr. Pita Picpican, Assistant Regional Director; Engr. Debbie Glynn Manangkil, PSTC Apayao Officer; and Engr. Carluz R. Bautista, Supervising Science Research Specialist.

Funded under the DOST-CAR Grants-in-Aid (GIA) program for 2022, the project is spearheaded by Dr. Maria Christina Z. Manicad, Director for Research and Development and Special. The initiative explores the potential of Anabo, a non-timber forest product native to Apayao, as a sustainable source of high-quality fiber for the textile industry in the Cordillera region.

Dr. Manicad presented key findings and progress updates, highlighting studies completed and deliverables achieved. She emphasized the project’s commitment to sustainable development through partnerships with local government units and farmer cooperatives.

Also present were Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, ASC Vice President for Academics, Research Development and Extension Services; Dr. Mirasol L. Agpuldo, Director for Extension and Knowledge and Technology Management (KTM); and research staff.
