The Municipality of Conner, Apayao, renowned as the fruit basket of the Province and home to Apayao State College, celebrated its 61st founding anniversary on June 25, 2024. The event, which took place at Paul Delwasen Gymnasium within the LGU-Conner compound drew nearly 600 attendees.

The celebration began with a motorcade participated in by various line agencies, NGOs, peoples’ organizations, and Apayao State College. This started in Barangay Guinaang, approximately 15 kilometers from the venue, where the main events occurred. The Thanksgiving Mass was led by Bishop Prudencio P. Andaya, Jr. of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk City and Rev. Fr. Teodoro Pic-It, Jr.

This year’s celebration was highlighted by the blessing and unveiling of the marker for the newly constructed municipal building. The ceremony was attended by Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr., Conner Mayor Jorico F. Bayaua, Rizal Mayor Joel Ruma, and other local officials. Reflecting the rich culture and traditions of the Cordillerans, the building was designed by Ar. Kevin Ramos and Engr. Ian Pancho.

Mayor Bayaua expressed his gratitude to past and present officials and constituents for their collective efforts in promoting good governance and transparency. Former Mayor Martina Dangoy also thanked the officials and yConnerians for their strong support during her tenure.

Governor Bulut emphasized in his message the ongoing development efforts aimed at uplifting the lives of yApayaos and acknowledged the essential roles of barangay and LGU officials, along with community sectors.

The celebration featured cultural performances showcasing the heritage of the Kalinga, Malaueg, and Isneg tribes. Additionally, LGU-Conner awarded certificates to student-athlete medalists during the CARAA and CARASUC Meet 2024, hosted by the Province. Vice-Mayor Alexander M. Aswigue concluded the event with his closing remarks, capping a day filled with pride, gratitude, and cultural display followed by the friendship games in the afternoon.
