Apayao State College officially launched the 2025 National Women’s Month Celebration on March 2 at the EKB Auditorium, ASC-Luna Campus. The event, spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, embraced the national theme “WE Gender Equality and Inclusive Society” and the 2025 sub-theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”

Dr. Rey Carl V. Arimas, Director for Gender and Development, reaffirmed ASC’s commitment to inclusivity, highlighting the essential role of women in shaping society. “This year’s celebration underscores the vital contributions of women across all sectors—from politics and education to business and healthcare,” he stated.

Echoing this, Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice President for Academics, Research, Development, and Extension Services, emphasized the significance of women’s contributions to nation-building. “Every woman, whether in science, the arts, the home, or public service, is a driving force in creating a more inclusive and progressive society,” he remarked.

Further reinforcing the message of empowerment, Chief Administrative Officer Brendalyn U. Fernando acknowledged the resilience and achievements of women, stressing the need for continuous efforts to achieve true gender equality and inclusivity.

The event featured several key activities, including:

  • Ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the Purple Corner, a dedicated space promoting gender advocacy.
  • Launching of the Gender and Development (GAD) Vision, Mission, and Goals (VMGs) to guide ASC’s gender initiatives.
  • Unveiling of the GAD Strategic Agenda for 2025-2030, outlining long-term goals for gender equality at ASC.
  • Introduction of the ASC Chorale, adding a cultural touch to the celebration.
  • Fellowship photo session, fostering camaraderie among attendees.

A Gender Sensitivity Training followed, with Associate Professor Cheryl F. Olvida as the resource speaker. Introduced by GFPS Secretariat Committee member Kathreeza C. Ganiban, Prof. Olvida provided an in-depth discussion on:

  • The definition and significance of gender sensitivity
  • The historical and cultural context of gender issues in the Philippines
  • Key gender concepts and strategies for promoting equality
  • Challenges in academic settings in the Philippine context
  • An orientation on Republic Act 9710 – The Magna Carta of Women

Before closing the event, Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo, Campus Academic Dean, delivered remarks honoring women leaders, educators, and advocates. She underscored the collective responsibility to advance gender equality and inclusivity in all aspects of society.

The celebration set the tone for a month-long series of activities aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and gender-responsive initiatives at ASC.
