Signifying the women’s movement, Apayao State College – Gender and Development Office conducted a community outreach program on women’s rights held at the Barangay Sta. Lina, Gymnasium, Luna in the province of Apayao, on March 20.
Police Captain Gemma A. Lumayyung, Chief of Police-Luna Municipal Police Station, discussed “R.A. 9262 known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004” and other related laws. Likewise, Dr. Rey Carl V. Arimas, GAD Focal Person, talked about “R.A. 1970 or the Magna Carta of Women.”
Recognizing the theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” the GAD launches the purple corner to symbolize shared visibility throughout gender matters. Hon. Benny Alipay, Punong Barangay of Sta. Lina, Brendalyn U. Fernando, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of this institution, PCPT Gemma A. Lumayyung, Chief of Police-Luna Municipal Police Station, Dr. Rey Carl V. Arimas, barangay officials, and the participants witnessed the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon.
CAO Fernando mentioned the purpose of celebrating Women’s Month while transporting the role of women toward nation-building. The resource speakers acknowledged formulated inquiries of the volunteered participants based on the discussions.
