The two-day Training Workshop on Online Resources App for a New Guild of Education (ORANGE) Learning Management System (LMS) spearheaded by the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology kicked off yesterday, August 23, at the EKB Auditorium, RDE Building in Luna Campus.
The activity is aimed at capacitating program chairpersons and faculty members on the utilization and application of ORANGE LMS developed by the Isabela State University-Echague Campus (ISU-E). ORANGE LMS is an e-learning platform where teachers and students can seamlessly manage online classes that enable them to monitor classwork activities, track progress, store learning materials and outcomes, and other features that enhance teaching-learning techniques and experiences.
Participants were able to navigate the features of ISU-E ORANGE LMS by creating virtual classes assigned for the first semester. A number of advantages of the online platform were discussed by the ISU-E team led by its project leader, Dr. Ricardo Q. Camungao, with study leaders Christine Charmaine G. San Jose, Marlyn M. Bermoza, Benchie L. Maribao, and Joe G. Lagarteja. These benefits include tracking, reporting, delivering, documenting, and storing, among others, which are patterned or designed following the needs of the State Universities and Colleges (SUC).
The majority of the faculty members said the system is user-friendly and hopes to fully maximize its features and other benefits without being limited to the traditional physical classroom setting.
In an interview, Dr. Camungao acknowledged the initiative of ASC President John N. Cabansag, the then Cluster Executive Officer of ISU-Echague, who gave the idea for the College of Computing Studies and Information and Communications Technology (CCSICT) to develop its own LMS through the capstone project of their IT students in the midst of the pandemic. He added that Dr. Cabansag’s several inputs to improve the first stages of the proposal had greatly contributed to the successful campuswide implementation which is now in its second year. Likewise, Dr. Rema B. Ocampo, Luna Campus Academic Dean, mentioned during the opening program of the activity about President Cabansag’s vision with ISU-E of having a homegrown system in place which has already come to fruition and will be extended to Apayao State College.
