In recognition of the theme “Crafting Flavors, Honoring Heritage, Celebrating Unity: A Journey Through Coffee and Apayao Culture,” the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) Management of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) 4th year students hosted a vibrant cultural and coffee-centered event on October 30 at EKB Auditorium, ASC–Luna Campus.

Assist. Prof. Catherine T. Bangayan, BSHM Program Chair, reminded attendees that the activity was more than an academic exercise; it was a glimpse into their future roles as professionals shaping meaningful encounters and promoting Apayao’s cultural richness to the world.

The event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers who each brought unique insights into the convergence of culture, craftsmanship, and community.

Krinezza Vail Boday-Lawat, Municipal Tourism Officer of Calanasan, Apayao, delved into the intricate cultural fabric of the Isnag community. She highlighted the traditions, values, and customs that define Apayao’s identity, while underscoring the need to safeguard its linguistic, musical, and culinary heritage.

Adding a modern entrepreneurial perspective, Markie Alariao, Managing Consultant, inspired participants through his talk, “Grounded in Growth: Brewing Purpose and Passion in Every Cup.” He shared his inspiring journey of turning a love for coffee into a mission of culture and community building in Apayao. His café serves as a space for learning, connection, and empowerment while supporting local farmers and artisans.

Concluding the lineup, Marc Deil C. Bagabay, owner of Café Filo, captivated the audience with his session, “The Coffee Trifecta: Unpacking History, Perfecting the Pour, Designing the Drink.” His live-pour demonstration showcased the artistry of immersion brewing and the science behind flavor extraction—underscoring how precision and creativity intertwine in the craft of coffee-making.

Instructor Marianne Faith B. Puyot, MICE Adviser, reflected on the spirit of collaboration the event embodied.

She expressed hope that the dialogues and ideas shared during the occasion would continue to resonate long after its conclusion, inspiring sustained enthusiasm and purpose among the participants.
