Manila, December 10, 2025 — Apayao State College, led by College President Dr. John N. Cabansag, was honored at the Internationalization Champions of Nation-building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards 2025 held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Manila. The annual ceremony, organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), recognizes Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for their outstanding contributions to the internationalization of Philippine higher education.
In addition to the ICONS recognition, Apayao State College achieved distinguished global rankings, placing in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 within the 1501+ category, which reflects its strong commitment to sustainable development goals. It also ranked 221 in the World University Rankings for Innovation 2025 (WURI), a testament to the college’s pioneering research and innovative academic programs.
College officials who accompanied Dr. Cabansag at the event included Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice President for Academics, Research and Development & Extension Services; Ms. Jemmarie S. Kotoken, Vice President for Administration and Finance Services; Mr. Rodel Tapuro, Procurement Officer; and Dr. Marvelyn Ignacio, Teacher Education faculty member and part of the THE and WURI Team of Apayao State College.
Dr. Cabansag remarked, “These prestigious awards and rankings showcase the collective dedication of our institution to advancing innovation, sustainability, and international collaboration. Together with our hardworking team and partners, we continue to elevate Apayao State College’s standing on the global stage and reaffirm our commitment to quality education and nation-building.”
The ICONS Awards gathering highlighted the significant strides Apayao State College has made in international linkages, research collaborations, and sustainable educational practices, setting a strong example for other HEIs in the region and the country.
