ASC–Conner Campus officially commenced the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women with a kick-off ceremony held on November 24 at the EKB Multipurpose Gymnasium, ASC Main Extension (Cubet).
Spearheaded by the Gender and Development Office, the campaign is anchored on the national theme “United for a VAW-Free Philippines” and the sub-theme “VAW Bigyang-Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras.”
Following the Monday flag raising ceremony, a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Fr. Teodoro B. Pic-it, Jr. of the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Conner, was attended by employees to set a reflective and meaningful tone for the advocacy activity.
To promote awareness and collective action against all forms of abuse, the lecture on Gender-Based Violence in the workplace was led by P/CPL Mary M. Dorado of the Conner Municipal Police Station, who clearly differentiated the Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act 11313) from the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, emphasizing their relevance in protecting employees and students alike.
A key highlight of the event was the message of Hon. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang, Representative of the Lone District of Apayao, delivered by Mr. Thomas A. Pumbaya.
Cong. Leah’s message underscored the crucial role of educators and public servants in protecting students and young people from abuse and behavioral changes that may signal distress.
“We can do something. You, my fellow public servants of ASC, play a vital role in this big task. In you lies the responsibility not only to educate but also to influence and mold the young minds of our students. They say teachers are often the first to notice when a child or student suddenly changes in behavior or withdraws socially. I urge you, the teaching and non-teaching personnel of our beloved ASC, to be vigilant and become powerful agents of change.”
To conclude the program, Ms. May Ann H. Galande, Director for Quality Assurance and Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator, delivered the closing remarks. She reaffirmed ASC’s commitment to advancing gender sensitivity, promoting safe spaces, and strengthening mechanisms that protect the rights and welfare of women and girls.
Also as part of the event, women employees were treated to a free manicure and pedicure service, offering them a simple yet meaningful moment of relaxation and self-care.
