The Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) programs of Apayao State College–Luna Campus have formalized a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Luna Central School on November 12, strengthening collaboration in academic support and sports development initiatives.
The partnership marks a dual commitment to two major extension programs: Project SMART (Science, Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan, and Reading Tutorials) and Project ASC (Academic Support through Chess): Enhancement of Cognitive Abilities among Youth through Chess Education.
Project SMART was derived from the research studies of Instructor Mark Neil A. Galut, BEEd Program Chair, titled “Development and Validation of Sci-Math Boardgame” and “Effectiveness of Sci-Math Boardgame.” Additionally, it includes the study “Effectiveness of ReVoc (Reading and Vocabulary) Boardgame,” conducted by his advisees Jhon Philip Camilit, Banjo Aguinaldo, and Zaida Faith Alupay under his guidance. It aims to enhance pupils’ competencies in science, mathematics, social studies, and reading through tutorials, workshops, and community learning activities designed to strengthen their academic performance and learning engagement.
Meanwhile, Project ASC originated from the research study of Asst. Prof. Marfred T. Sanchez, BPEd Program Chair, titled “The Multi-Faceted Benefits of Chess on the Lives of Chess-Playing Students.” It promotes cognitive development, critical thinking, and sportsmanship among learners through structured chess education and training.
The MOAs were signed by Dr. Sherry Ann H. Baria, Principal of LCS, together with school officials and project proponents.
