Faculty members teaching science-related subjects and managing laboratory operations, particularly the Science Laboratory, headed by Ms. Majeth Pescador, participated in a two-day Training Workshop on Laboratory Manual Procedures and Effective Standard Operating Program Writing held on June 16–17 at EKB Auditorium, ASC-Luna Campus.
The workshop featured expert resource speakers from Kalinga State University: Assistant Professor Melanie Manuel, Director of Central Science Laboratory; and Assistant Professor Orlando Arangorin, Laboratory in-charge of Forensic Laboratory.
The workshop covered discussions on the following topics:
• “An overview of laboratory operations manuals, including their purpose, structure, and compliance with CHED requirements
• Laboratory safety policies and emergency response protocols
• Equipment handling, calibration techniques, and preventive maintenance procedures
• Application of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Principles in Manual Development
Laboratory Best practices, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-aligned safety protocols and health hazard policies”
As part of the training, designated departments from ASC engaged in hands-on workshops focusing on laboratory practice assessment, policy development, and standard formatting for inventory management and storage procedures.
Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice President for Academics, Research Development, and Extension Services, called for active engagement and collaboration during the training to maximize its impact. “I hope by the end of the workshop, each of us will leave better equipped to enhance the quality, safety, and reliability of our laboratory environments”, he said.
