Greater opportunities await those aspiring nurses in Apayao and neighboring provinces as Apayao State College (ASC) forges a strategic partnership with Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) to establish its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at its Luna Campus. This milestone was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on February 4 at the MMSU FEM Hall.
Leading the ceremony was MMSU OIC-President Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco, joined by ASC Vice President for Academic, Research Development, and Extension Services Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo.
Faculty members from the MMSU College of Health Sciences also participated, including College Secretary Karen Raidis Marcelino, Department of Nursing Chair Roel Beljamin, team leader Elmer Santos, Prof. Alwin Santos, Planning Director Marlowe Aquino, and Legal Officer Atty. Ma. Saniata Marcos.
Other ASC representatives were, College Nurse Eunice Aloag, Campus Academic Dean Rema B. Ocampo, and Bachelor of Physical Education Program Chair Marfred T. Sanchez.
Dr. Ocampo expressed gratitude for MMSU’s support in guiding ASC through preparing documentary requirements for the accreditation process and providing essential training and consultations saying the partnership is a significant step towards further collaboration.
The MoU outlines MMSU’s commitment to assisting ASC in key areas such as instruction, research, and extension, specifically on nursing education.
As part of this initiative, MMSU’s faculty from the College of Health Sciences conducted a preliminary consultation workshop at the ASC Luna Campus from January 28 to 29. The discussions covered crucial aspects of program development, including admission policies, management of Related Learning Experience (RLE) funds, nursing course content, clinical assessment strategies, and the establishment of a well-equipped nursing arts laboratory.
Dr. Franco reaffirmed MMSU’s dedication to supporting ASC in developing a quality nursing program. “Together, we can develop human capital in the nursing profession,” she emphasized.
With this partnership, ASC is poised to become a key player in addressing the growing demand for competent nursing professionals in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
MMSU’s BSN program has held Level IV Phase 1 accreditation from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Universities and Colleges in the Philippines (AACCUP) since 2019. Over the years, it has consistently produced topnotchers in the Nursing Licensure Examination administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), demonstrating its commitment to excellence in nursing education.
