In a joint effort to strengthen professional engagement and advance workforce practices, the Professional Regulation Commission β Cordillera Administrative Region (PRC-CAR) partnered with Apayao State College (ASC) for a seminar titled βEmpowering Workforce Competence: The Vital Role of Continuing Professional Development.β Held on October 2 at the RDE Conference Hall, ASC-Luna Campus, the event brought together key professionals to highlight the significance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
PRC-CAR Regional Director Juanita L. Domogen emphasized the core purpose of CPD, which is βcontinuous learning,β and underscored the need for educators to stay updated in their fields. She remarked, βYou are giving instructions to future nation-builders, so itβs best to be updated on the latest trends in your profession.β
Representing College President Dr. John N. Cabansag, Chief Administrative Officer Brendalyn U. Fernando highlighted the impact of personal and professional growth. βBy investing in our own growth, we not only enhance our individual potential and competencies but also contribute to the collective success of our teams, institution, and community,β she stated.
Dr. Ronald Ocampo, Vice President for Academic Research and Development & Extension Services, echoed these sentiments through Dr. Philip Constantine Mandac. He explained that strengthening CPD units allows professionals to adapt to rapid changes in their fields and face new challenges with confidence.
The seminar featured key speakers, including Supervising Professional Regulations Officer Frances Noelle G. Escalera, who provided an overview of CPD, guidelines for accreditation, and updates on the Continuing Professional Development Accreditation System (CPDAS). She also discussed strategies for preparing documentation, training plans, evaluation tools, and completion reports.
Professional Regulations Officer III Geneveive F. Gumiyao focused on the latest updates to Republic Act No. 10912, also known as the CPD Act of 2016, and explained the Matrix of CPD Activities (PRC Res. 2020-1244) as a guide for crediting CPD units.
The event was highly interactive, with ASC employees creating their own CPDAS accounts under the guidance of PRC staff. Questions regarding CPD requirements and processes were addressed, enriching participantsβ understanding of the system.
Associate Professor Cheryl F. Olvida, CPD Focal Person, expressed her gratitude to the speakers, organizers, and participants, acknowledging their determination and support, which contributed to the seminarβs success.
