In line with Republic Act (RA) 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, student leaders from ASC-Luna Campus took part in the Zero Waste Month Celebration held at the MITHI Building, ASC-Luna Campus, on January 31.
Facilitated by the Environmental Sustainability and Governance (ESG) Office, General Services Office, and Student Affairs and Services Office, the event emphasized the importance of sustainable waste management practices. Dr. David Rodolfo, ESG Officer, highlighted the significance of committing to a zero-waste future.
“As an academic institution, Apayao State College must show its support for these endeavors, prioritizing the balance between development and environmental protection,” he stated.
The event featured two subject matter experts:
• Forester Kristine Mae N. Dimaya from MENRO-Luna, who discussed Republic Act 9003 and its impact on ecological solid waste management.
• Daniel Jose M. Viernes from the Environmental Management Bureau, who presented on Local Ordinances for Ecological Solid Waste Management in the Municipality of Luna.
Among the key officials in attendance were Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo, Campus Academic Dean of Luna; Dr. Evelyn P. Alvarez, Director for Student Affairs; Mr. Romy A. Rigates, General Services Officer; and Forester Olivia C. Tomas, Pollution Control Officer.
The activity reflects ASC’s continuous commitment to fostering environmental responsibility among its students, encouraging them to take active roles in promoting zero-waste practices within and beyond the campus.
