The Isabela State University (ISU) has offered its mentorship services to Apayao State College (ASC) in the implementation of the Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement (BIDANI) program, a comprehensive nutrition-in-development strategy aimed at emphasizing the need to mainstream the improvement of the nutrition of Filipinos towards achieving national development.

BIDANI is a brainchild of the University of the Philippines in Los Banos (UPLB) and has been a strategy for mobilizing communities to improve the malnutrition status of society wherein ISU has been an adaptor through its Extension Services since UPLB has extended its wings to the different regions by tapping the state universities and colleges (SUCs) across the country.

BIDANI has three core components, the Barangay Integrated Development Approach (BIDA), the Barangay Management and Information System (BMIS), and the Participative Nutrition Enhancement Approach (PNEA).

Following the invitation of ISU to ASC as co-implementor of the BIDANI program, a tripartite agreement will soon be made with the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB). Through this program, the extension mandate of ASC can be made more relevant and responsive to the communities in the Province of Apayao.

In a consultative meeting conducted last July 8, Mr. Anthony M. Aquino, Project Leader from ISU-BIDANI, discussed the overview, and possible approach to municipalities in the province of Apayao, and other BIDANI-related matters. Together with him were Dr. Martina R. Penalber, ISU – PNEA Coordinator; Ms. Norvelyn B. Bautista, ISU- BIDA Coordinator; Mr. Mark Joseph A. Asuncion, BMIS Coordinator; and Mr. Jeremy Sotelo, Extension & Project Staff.

As the project leader, Dr. Mirasol L. Agpuldo, the Director of Extension Services and Knowledge and Technology Management Officer will lead ASC in this endeavor.  Associate Professors David Rodolfo, PhD, Jonathan Bien Domingo, and Leilani A. Parugrug, will serve as BIDA, BMIS and PNEA Coordinators, respectively.

Also in attendance was Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice-President for Academics, Research & Development Services. Both parties paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Campus Academic Dean.
