Exploring an adaptive and responsive approach to driving research development, a Phase 3 Capacity Building on University Research Futures Thinking and Foresight was conducted at Casa Victoria, Pagudpud in the province of Ilocos Norte from December 11-13.
The subject matter experts were from Aptissimi Development Innovations Incorporated, namely Gerardo P. Escara, Training Coordinator; Raul G. Roldan, Resource Person, and Commodity Coach; Godfredo T. Villapando, Facilitator, Resource Person, and Commodity Coach; and Reginald Rex E. Barrer, Commodity Coach.
Identified College and Campus officials, faculty, and staff were designated to work in food security, environmental management, biodiversity, and renewable energy commodities.
ASC College President Dr. John N. Cabansag underscored the significance of working collaboration in preparing for the future with potential and opportunity, saying “by integrating futures thinking into our research and academic practices, we can better anticipate emerging trends, identify potential challenges, and seize opportunities that align with our mission.”
Phase 1 lectures focused on reviewing key concepts such as signals, drivers, trends, the futures triangle, and scenario building, while Phase 2 lectures revisited industry studies/value chain analysis.
Phase 3 featured modules aimed at strengthening research through the lens of sustainable development goals, moonshots, backcasting, and refining research proposals. These topics were discussed by Mr. Villapando and Mr. Roldan.
Participants presented their outputs, along with recommendations from the subject matter experts.
