To elevate teaching standards and boost student achievement, identified faculty members and program chairpersons from ASC-Luna and Conner Campuses underwent seminar workshop on Outcomes-Based Education and Outcomes-Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) at EKB Auditorium, ASC-Luna Campus on April 14-15.

The workshop featured as resource speakers Engr. Dionisio R. Tandingan Jr., Director of the Institute of Teaching and Learning at University of the Cordilleras, and Engr. Cynthia Posadas, former Dean of the College of Engineering at Saint Louis University-Baguio.

Kicking off the session, Engr. Tandingan outlined the objectives, which were contextualizing the OBE process within the ASC framework, revisiting the ASC’s OBE framework, graduate attributes, Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), and the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process. He also provided a walkthrough of the ASC OBE implementation process and set expectations.

Engr. Posadas led a series of sessions covering components of the OBE framework. Her discussions included an overview of the OBE process, institutional learning outcomes and graduate attributes, and the formulation of Program Educational Outcomes (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs). She also tackled the development of OBE-aligned syllabi, effective alignment of teaching and learning activities with assessments, strategies for OBE assessment, and an introduction to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

Participants then engaged in a series of hands-on workshops to apply the principles and frameworks introduced during the sessions through designing and crafting essential academic components that reflect outcomes-based practices and support the institution’s pursuit of educational excellence. The resource speakers guided the participants, offering insights and recommendations to strengthen their outputs.

Dr. Ocampo noted that the initiative addresses a key finding of the CHED-Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQuAT) while also advancing the goal of creating an outcomes-driven, learner-centered academic environment.

“This undertaking is more than just a response to one of the findings of the RQUAT. It is, in fact, a clear statement of our collective aspiration to elevate our teaching and learning practices and to shape a more outcomes-driven, learner-centered academic environment for our students,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, Ms. Fe T. Dugay highlighted the importance of the seminar-workshop, stating, “This initiative recognizes that effective implementation of OBE and OBTL requires not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on training on best practices that align teaching methodologies with intended learning outcomes.”

The event was organized by the Quality Assurance Office.
