The Apayao State College (ASC) International Affairs and Linkages (IAL) Office held an orientation on UI GreenMetric, Times Higher Education (THE), and World University Ranking Initiatives (WURI) on September 5, 2024, at the EKB Sr. Auditorium, RDE Building, Luna Campus.  Attended by employees from both campuses, the event highlighted the importance of international rankings and their impact on the college’s visibility.

Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice President for Academics, Research Development & Extension Services, proudly shared ASC’s first-ever success in WURI rankings, where the college secured the 284th position globally. He also highlighted ASC’s impressive rankings in Social Responsibility (10th place), Crisis Management (20th place), and Entrepreneurial Spirit (27th place).

 â€śThis orientation will inspire many of you to embark on innovative projects and research endeavors that can contribute to our future rankings and solidify our position as a leading institution in the region and beyond,” Dr. Ocampo stated.

College President Dr. John N. Cabansag emphasized the importance of international engagement and fostering a collective identity as crucial steps toward internationalization. He also stressed the need to incorporate green technologies for sustainability in the college’s initiatives.

Dr. Philip Constantine L. Mandac, Director for IAL, highlighted how rankings like UI GreenMetric, THE, and WURI play a critical role in enhancing ASC’s global reputation.

“The activity aims to provide insights into the ranking criteria and offer strategies for effective data collection and reporting,” he added.

The orientation featured presentations on 13 WURI categories by Dr. Marvelyn D. Ignacio, including notable projects like RETASO and SAPAT, and discussions on project conceptualization strategies by Dr. Ocampo. Ms. Jenny Vee Pumbaya and Mr. Dennis Dizon, both IAL staff also provided in-depth discussions on THE Impact Rankings and UI GreenMetric, respectively, highlighting the institution’s commitment to quality education and sustainability.

The event concluded with Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Brendalyn U. Fernando expressing optimism that ASC will continue to excel in global rankings, further enhancing the institution’s ability to provide quality education to its students.
