The ASC Gender and Development (GAD) committed to an empowerment call to celebrate National Women’s Month as it kicked off today, March 6, at the RDE Conference Hall, ASC-Luna Campus.
“The role of women in nation building is crucial and vital as they also contribute to the great part of the development of a particular institution, not only in the country but also for a particular institution,” Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, Vice President for Academics, Research & Development, and Extension Services stated in his inspirational message. Moreover, he reminisced how his parents immeasurably provided for his future needs, accompanied by nurtured love. Through the eyes of a mother, he gave a tribute to the mothers’ sacrifices.
Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo patterned a thread of what it means to be a woman. She shared her roles as a daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and academic dean. Firstly, as a daughter, she honored her ancestors in the molding of who she is in the present. Secondly, she has an inseparable connection with her siblings through time and distance. Thirdly, she cherished the beauty of friendship while filling the role of a good communicator. Fourthly, she embedded the walks of her marriage. Fifthly, emotional foundation, especially into the train of motherhood.
“In celebration of the National Women’s Month Kickoff Ceremony, I am a woman, of course, dedicated to fostering an environment where every woman can thrive intellectually, professionally, and personally,” she expressed as she is currently steering the role of an academic dean.
She also reminded the backbone affirmations of being a woman. “Let us remember that being a woman is not merely a biological identity but a profound and transformative experience. It is a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and endless possibilities,” she added before concluding her remarks.
Apart from individual portrayed narratives, Dr. Ronald Ocampo, Dr. Rema Bascos-Ocampo, and Ms. Brendalyn Fernando welcomed the ceremonial cutting of the advocacy purple ribbon.
Dr. Rey Carl V. Arimas, the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person, read the rationale through Ms. Kathreeza B. Castillo, the GAD Secretariat.
“We, therefore, appeal to both ASC officials and employees to join hands in enabling “Juana” to participate freely and openly. We need to equip women with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively involve themselves in governance. We should never get tired of providing equal opportunities for women and men and break the glass ceilings and walls,” she emphasized.
College and campus officials, faculty members, and non-teaching staff showed their support and pursued a concrete framework of “gender equality and inclusive society.”
